Mobile phone batteries are becoming less and less durable.
Recently, I hardly used my phone at work. I would leave in the morning with a full charge and only check posts during lunch break. The rest of the time, my phone was on standby. However, even with this minimal usage, the battery would be critically low around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I had to dig out the charging cable from my backpack, untangle the tangled cables inside the power box at my desk, and then charge my phone.
Upon careful recollection, I bought this phone in early 2021, during the second semester of my sophomore year, at a cheap price from an acquaintance.
It has been exactly three years, and based on a complete cycle every 1.5 days, the battery has gone through approximately 730 cycles. According to Apple's official website, the battery health should not be lower than 80% after 500 cycles. However, the battery health of my iPhone 11 is currently at 72%.
But in reality, when the battery health drops to 80%, it doesn't just mean a 20% decrease in battery life, it feels like a sudden and drastic battery collapse.
I used to charge my phone once a day when I used it intensively.
Now, I have to charge it twice a day even with minimal usage.
I can't stand it.
Thinking about the upcoming Chinese New Year when I will be going out for long periods of time to visit relatives, I bought a "Feimao Leg" brand iPhone battery and a screen disassembly tool on Taobao to avoid the awkward situation of not having a phone to use.
Finally, the weekend arrived.
Turn off the phone --> Use the disassembly tool --> Separate the screen --> Clean the adhesive --> Replace the battery --> Turn on the phone
After replacing the battery and turning on the phone, when I saw the familiar Apple logo light up, I breathed a sigh of relief.
But then something unexpected happened.
No matter how I swiped my finger, the screen was unresponsive.
It! Had! No! Response!
Shit!
At first, I thought it was a loose connection, so I tried reconnecting it, but after restarting, the screen remained unresponsive, just like a eunuch in a brothel.
In the end, I had to take half a day off the next day and drive 20 kilometers to a phone repair shop in the upper city area. (I even had to pay 12 yuan for parking, it really hurt!)
After the boss's inspection, he said the problem was with the interface. He found a small hole around the metal interface with a microscope, and the surrounding capacitors were loose and detached. In the end, I had to pay an additional 100 yuan, and the repair was successfully completed with tears in my eyes.
I calculated the total expenses for this battery replacement incident:
No. | Item | Expense |
---|---|---|
1 | Feimao Leg battery | ¥129 |
2 | Screen disassembly tool | ¥66.3 |
3 | Repair fee | ¥300 |
4 | Parking fee | ¥12 |
5 | Half-day off | 0.5 day |
5 | Total | ¥507 + 0.5 day off |
Meanwhile, Apple's official price for genuine battery repair is 688 yuan, and third-party battery replacement only costs 150-200 yuan.
I instantly felt like I had lost a lot of money. It seems that impulsive decisions like this are not without reason for others to profit.
But isn't life all about trying new things? Having more skills is always a good thing, hahaha.
